Subsoil Drainage in Auckland

Some drainage problems happen beneath the surface, where water sits trapped in the soil rather than pooling visibly on top of the ground. Our subsoil drainage service installs perforated pipe systems below ground level, specifically designed to intercept and redirect groundwater before it causes problems like waterlogged lawns, unstable foundations, or persistent dampness around structures. This is especially relevant on Auckland properties with clay soils, which hold subsurface water far longer than more porous ground types. We assess your property's soil profile and water table behaviour before designing a subsoil drainage layout suited to your specific site, ensuring water is captured and redirected effectively rather than continuing to cause hidden damage. Whether it's around a new retaining wall, beneath a lawn area, or as part of a broader property drainage strategy, subsoil drainage addresses the water problems you can't always see from the surface.

What We Deliver

Subsoil Drainage, Designed Around Your Property

01

Our Subsoil Drainage Installation Process

Subsoil drainage works by giving groundwater an easier path than the one it's currently taking through your section. Here's how we design and install it.

Soil and water table assessment — we check the soil profile and how high the water sits, since that decides how deep the lines go.

Layout design — we plan the run spacing and direction to intercept water before it reaches the area you are trying to protect.

Trenching to depth — trenches are dug below the problem zone and laid to a consistent fall along the whole run.

Pipe and aggregate — perforated pipe is bedded in clean drainage metal, which is what actually lets water into the system.

Filter fabric — the aggregate is wrapped in geotextile so clay fines cannot migrate in and silt the line up.

Discharge and reinstatement — we connect to a suitable outfall, then backfill in layers and reinstate the surface above.

Why Choose Our Subsoil Drainage Team in Auckland

Subsoil problems are easy to misdiagnose. A lawn that stays wet can be a surface water issue, a groundwater issue, or both, and the fixes are completely different. We work out which one you've got before quoting a solution.

Depth is the thing most people get wrong. A subsoil line has to sit below the level where the water is causing trouble, and a shallow trench through clay does almost nothing except waste a weekend.

We install these lines around retaining walls, under lawns, along boundaries and beside foundations, so we've seen how they behave across most of the situations Auckland properties throw up.

What Makes Our Auckland Drainage Specialists Unique?

Filter fabric is non-negotiable on our jobs. In clay soils, an unwrapped subsoil line silts up faster than anywhere else, and once the aggregate is full of fines the system is finished. Wrapping it costs very little compared to digging it up again.

We use clean, properly graded drainage metal rather than site fill. The whole system depends on the void space in that aggregate, so filling the trench with anything that has fines in it defeats the purpose before you've backfilled.

And we plan the outfall first. Groundwater has to discharge somewhere it can keep moving, and a subsoil line that ends in a soakage pit already sitting in a wet clay pocket just moves the water two metres and stops.
