Auckland Stone Veneer Retaining Walls

We build the structure and the cladding as one job, which removes the most common failure point on these walls — a builder who doesn't allow for cladding thickness, and a stonemason who arrives to find the wall is in the wrong place by 40 millimetres.

We'll walk you through the real difference between natural stone and manufactured veneer. Natural stone has more variation and generally looks better up close; manufactured veneer is lighter, more consistent, and usually noticeably cheaper. Both are good choices in the right spot.

Because the underlying wall is engineered like any other retaining structure, you're not trading strength for appearance. The stone is a finish, not the thing holding your slope up.

We set out the stone before we lay it. Dry-laying a section on the ground first lets us balance the colour spread and the size mix so the finished wall doesn't end up with all the dark stone bunched in one corner.

We take the detailing seriously — corners, wall ends, capping and the junctions where the wall meets steps or paths. Those details are what separate a wall that looks custom from one that looks like tiles stuck on concrete.

And we don't skip the drainage just because the wall is going to look pretty. Water trapped behind a clad wall shows up as staining, efflorescence and eventually stone falling off the face, so the drainage layer goes in exactly as it would on any other structural wall.
