Auckland Concrete Sleeper Retaining Walls

We build these walls all over Auckland, and the main thing we bring is knowing how deep the posts need to go. Post embedment depends on your retained height and your soil, and cutting it short is the reason so many sleeper walls start leaning within a few years.

You get the whole job from one crew — post holes, posts, sleepers, drainage and backfill. There's no gap between trades where the drainage quietly gets left out because nobody thought it was their job.

We also work with you on the look. Sleepers come in plain grey, charcoal, and various timber-look and rock-face finishes, and the difference in cost between them is usually smaller than people assume once the wall is priced as a whole.

We don't treat concrete sleepers as a maintenance-free shortcut. They still retain soil, they still hold back water, and they still need drainage behind them. Any wall that's just sleepers and dirt is storing up a problem.

Our posts get concreted properly and left alone to cure. Loading sleepers onto green concrete is a quick way to end up with posts that have shifted out of line, and once that happens there's no tidy fix.

We're also realistic about where sleepers are the right call. Above roughly a metre and a half, or where the load behind the wall is heavy, we'll usually point you toward a block or poured concrete wall instead of selling you a sleeper wall that's working at the edge of what it can do.
